UNIQUE? How So? Yes, indeed. For example,

No Tax Money

The Community Library is a non-profit foundation, not a municipal (city, county, or state) library. The Library receives no tax support of any kind. Funding comes  from donations, fund raising events, and proceeds from our sister organization, the GOLD MINE THRIFT STORE, which sells donated used goods. To this day, the Library operates entirely on what has been donated and has not borrowed a single penny.

Open To All

Because the Community Library is not tax supported, we are not required to limit services to those who, by their taxes, have paid for them. In fact, the Library offers free library services to all, regardless of your home town or ability to donate. Although the Library is located in Ketchum, Idaho, you need not be a Ketchum resident to use the library. All are welcome.

Free Library Services

The Library does not charge for a library card (How do I get one?), nor does it charge fines or fees or place restrictions on whom may check out books. The only charges are for postage and packaging costs associated with InterLibrary Loans and for replacement of lost or damaged materials.

Visionary Beginnings

A group of pioneering women founded the Community Library in 1955. Each contributed one dollar and lots of hard work, and, in true American fashion, the Library has grown from modest beginnings to a wonderful example of the power of a community to work together.

You Too Can Be A Part

There are many ways you can join in keeping the Library alive and well. Your tax-deductible donation goes directly to continuing library services. Your used goods donated to the Gold Mine Thrift Store not only support the library, but also may prove quite the bargain to someone else. Your donated time as a volunteer can be invaluable at either the Gold Mine or at the Library. Even contributions to the "Conscience Box"* go directly toward library services.

Please join us in supporting the Community Library, an invaluable community resource.

* Although the Library does not charge fines for overdue items, there is a "Conscience Box" available at the front desk inside the main entrance for those who wish to make amends for keeping an item longer than its check out period.
