Gardeners of Eden, Rediscovering Our Importance to Nature, by Dan Dagget, which has been called the most important environmental manifesto since Aldo Leopold's Land Ethic; Coming Home to Eat: The Pleasures and Politics of Local Foods authored by Gary Nabhan, writer, lecturer, and world-renowned conservation scientist; and The Basque History of the World by Mark Kurlansky, the author of Cod, Salt, and The Big Oyster.

Why Birches Are White

A love story and portrayal of contemporary Russian life, this fictional romance is based on a true story which occurred in the summer of 1987 when average Americans and Russians walked from Leningrad to Moscow for Peace.
A native of Russia, Dr. Smith teaches English in the Intensive American Language Center at Washington State University and is on the Executive Board of the Washington Association for the Education of Speakers of Other Languages. Why Birches Are White is Dr. Smith's first book, and she will be available to sign copies after the event.
