Wednesday, May 24, 6:00 pm

The Environmental Resource Center and the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative invite you to a slide show presentation and book signing with Florian Schulz, award-winning nature photographer and author of Yellowstone to Yukon: Freedom to Roam, a photographic journey.

In Yellowstone to Yukon, Schulz presents spectacular images of imposing landscapes, of peaks reflected in clear mountain lakes and valleys lushly expansive. It offers an incredible display of wildlife, from coyotes and wolves to Cutthroat trout and migrating snow geese, from bison and elk to caribou in the high arctic, from sparring moose to foraging pronghorn.

Evolution of Marxism
Wednesday, May 24, 7:00 pm

Professor Lee Brown will speak and lead a discussion at the Community Library Great Books Book Club on the evolution of Marxism, a force which changed the course of civilization. The discussion will include the works of philosophers Hegel, Marx, and Engels. Recommended readings include the very slim volume, The Communist Manifesto and Professor Brown’s book Rules and Conflict.

Karl Marx (1818-1883) greatly influenced economics, philosophy, sociology, and history. Born in Prussia, he earned a Ph.D. in philosophy in Berlin and later worked as a journalist in London. His most famous works were The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital, which was completed by the philosopher Friedrich Engels after Marx died.

Professor Lee Brown attained a Ph.D. in political philosophy from the University of Minnesota and was a professor at San Diego State and Grossmont College for almost 30 years, receiving the Outstanding Educator Award. Dr. Brown was a Fulbright Scholar and is listed in Who’s Who of American Scholars.

The Great Books Book Club meets monthly, usually on the fourth Wednesday, at the Community Library and is free and open to all.
