Son of the Rough South
Karl Fleming
Friday, October 14, 6:00 pm
In Son of the Rough South, Karl Fleming writes evocatively and with great candor about how his past as a bullied orphan made him an impassioned civil rights reporter and an unwilling participant in the struggle when he was severely beaten and left for dead during Los Angeles' Watts Riots in 1966. He also reveals how the demons of that rough-riding past nearly consumed him once that enormous story left many of its headlines behind. It is a stunning, revealing, unforgettable memoir of all the worlds he knew—black, white, violent, and cloistered—terribly moving and ultimately inspiring.

Ride to Provide
Shawn Stephenson and Benjamin Schumacher
Thursday, October 20, 7:00 pm
Join the Environmental Resource Center at the Community Library for this month’s Armchair Adventure Series. This hour long slide show features Bellevue Elementary School teacher Shawn Stephenson's and Benjamin Schumacher's journey "Ride to Provide."
Shawn and Benjamin rode a tandem recumbent tricycle approximately 1,000 miles from Ketchum, Idaho through Craters of the Moon National Monument, across the continental divide through Jackson and West Yellowstone, Wyoming, through Bozeman and western Montana, finishing near Chattaroy, Washington. Their adventure helped raise nearly $1500 through sponsorships to purchase new Spanish books for the Bellevue Elementary School Library. Come join Shawn and Benjamin as they showcase their journey through a photographic slide show full of unforgettable stories.
The Environmental Resource Center is a community-based nonprofit whose members promote a sustainable environment through community education, awareness, and participation.
