Chris Millspaugh, Regional History Librarian
Wednesday, July 20, 7:00 pm

The Community Library will commemorate the birthday of Nobel laureate Ernest Hemingway with a multimedia presentation by Chris Millspaugh, the Regional History Librarian for the Library. Millspaugh will focus on Hemingway's life in Idaho, including little known anecdotes from his contemporaries and many never published historical photos.

The Regional History Department contains a wealth of information on the history of Ketchum, Sun Valley, and the surrounding area, including print material, photographs, and other items related to Ernest Hemingway and his life in Sun Valley and Ketchum.

Grassroots book coverActivism, Feminism, and the Future
Amy Richards
Tuesday, July 26, 7:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to change the world or even just your community but didn't know how to begin? Amy Richards, author of Grassroots, who has appeared on Oprah, CNN, and The O'Reilly Factor (to name just a few), will tell you how you can make a difference.

"You don't have to take the world on your shoulders, you just need to take advantage of the opportunities your life provides for creating social justice" write co-authors Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner. Then they inspire by sharing specific examples and telling individual people's stories and the small changes they made to make a difference. Grassroots encourages people to move beyond the "generic three" (check writing, calling Congresspeople, and volunteering). It contains useful information about how to create change in our communities, and is an inspiring reminder to everyday citizens that with the right tools they can transform their communities.

Painting of Don QuixoteThe Great Books Book Club
Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Wednesday, July 27, 7:00 pm

July's book club selection is Cervantes' Don Quixote. As relevant today as it was in 1605, Don Quixote parodies not only the human condition, but the social structures that helped form western civilization. Gary Hunt from Iconoclast Bookstore will lead the discussion.

The Great Books Book Club meets monthly, generally on the fourth Wednesday, at The Community Library and is free and open to all.
