"The
Great Books" Book Club
The Works of Galen
Tuesday, October 8, 7:00 PM
The works of Galen, the Greek born anatomist who became physician to Roman gladiators and later to Marcus Aurelius, are the focus of this month's book club discussion. Gary Hunt from Iconoclast Bookstore will lead October's discussion.
Bookclub discussions are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM and are open to all.

Local Sheep Ranching History - Saturday, October 12 - 7:00 PM (Note: Held at American Legion Hall in Ketchum)
Trailing of the Sheep Parade - Sunday, October 13 - 12 Noon (Note: Held in downtown Ketchum)
In addition to the numerous local events held throughout the Wood River Valley, the Community Library is pleased to participate in the following Trailing of the Sheep Festival events:
Collecting Family Histories - The Library's Regional History Department will host this workshop designed to help participants record and assemble their family histories. Registration is recommended. October 11, 3:30 - 5:00 PM
Local Sheep Ranching History - Chris Millspaugh, Regional History Librarian, will present a multimedia presentation on the history of sheep ranching in the Wood River Valley region. October 12, 7:00 PM (Note: Held at American Legion Hall in Ketchum)
Trailing of the Sheep Parade - The announcer for this year's parade will be the Library's Chris Millspaugh, the Regional History Librarian and creator of the "Blaine County Historical Minute", broadcast Monday - Friday at 9:06 AM on KYZK radio. (Note: Parade held in downtown Ketchum)

- Center for Basque Studies Basque sheepherders played an integral part in the sheep ranching tradition of the Wood River Valley. The University of Nevada at Reno is a focal point for Basque study, including the Consortium for the Study of Basque Women.
- Livestock Guardian Dog Great Pyrenees dogs are still used to guard sheep in the mountains of Idaho. Information on the guarding characteristics of this breed can be found at the web site of the Great Pyrenees Club of America.

Beware, if you dare to enter the Labyrinth of Fear! Older kids and teens are invited to a special house of horrors located in the Children's Library. Enter through the Walnut Street entrance and be prepared to be scared. Because of the frightening nature of the Labyrinth of Fear, younger children are advised not to come near!
