- McSorley's Old Ale House St. Patricks's Day in the U.S., unlike Ireland, has become a day for nostalgic merrymaking. Perhaps no city in the U.S. celebrates like New York, and perhaps no place in New York has more Irish-American history than McSorley's Old Ale House, patronized by presidents and thieves, laborers and gentry, and subject of a Supreme Court ruling in 1970. Even its urinals are famous.
