Thoreau: Wilderness and the Wild
Bill Johnson
Wednesday, April 18, 7:00 pm
Idaho State Poet and Writer In Residence, Bill Johnson, will present this year's Community Library Earth Day lecture, focusing a critical eye on the writings of Henry David Thoreau.
Johnson, a professor of English at Lewis & Clark State College and author of What Thoreau Said: Walden and the Unsayable, weaves together biography, ecology, and aesthetics to better understand Thoreau's ideas on wilderness and art.

Our Idaho State Poet: Bill Johnson

Idaho State Poet and Writer in Residence Bill Johnson takes the Idahoan's love of the outdoors and expresses it using poetry to link nature and family, common objects, and sublime truths.
Johnson has published poetry in over twenty periodicals, and his book of poems Out of the Ruins has recently been published by Confluence Press.

Volunteers Signups
Ages 10 & up
Thursday, April 26, 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Volunteering at the library is a fun way to contribute to your community. Shining Stars, the group of youth volunteers at the Community Library, help with programs, events, and a bunch of library activities.
Young people ages 10 and up are invited to sign up as volunteers in the Children's Library. Learn more about what goes on in your library and have fun at the same time!

Cultural History in Hells Canyon

Ken Reid, State Historic Preservation Officer and State Archaeologist from the Idaho State Historical Society, will present a slide lecture on the deepest canyon in America, Hells Canyon.
Before European settlement, the Hells Canyon area was used by both the Shoshone and Nez Perce peoples. Find out the latest information uncovered by archaeologists on this journey with Ken Reid.
