Ginger
Sands
Children's Musical
Storyteller
Wednesday, August 2, 4:00 PM
A seasoned singer/songwriter as well as gifted storyteller, Ginger Sands combines her extensive background in music performance with child-tested material that is engaging, literate and just plain fun.
As a teaching artist, Ginger has worked extensively with children of various age groups and backgrounds, including those with special needs. Her concerts creatively combine music, poetry, movement, storytelling and audience participation.
She has recently released her first album, The Gift of Make-Believe, created specifically for the "Young and the Young at Heart." Sands has taken several classic children's lyrical poems and set them to original melodies, creating new songs.

Mark Salzman
Wednesday, August 23, 6:00 PM
Mark Salzman, winner of the L.A. Times Book Award for his novel, The Laughing Sutra, is one of the few whose books appeal to both adult and young adult readers alike. A cellist who decided at age 13 to become a wandering Zen monk after seeing a kung fu movie, Salzman heeded his parent's advice and finished high school, later graduating from Yale with a degree in Chinese Language and Literature.
While living and teaching in China, Salzman studied under one of the countries greatest wushu, or martial arts, masters, inspiring the book, and later motion picture, Iron and Silk. Salzman's books are noted for their rich character development, fluid style, and engaging stories.
