Ayn Rand Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life

Michael Paxton

Author/director Michael Paxton created an Oscar nominated documentary and book about Ayn Rand, author of Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and one of the most controversial thinkers of the 20th century. Paxton will speak about the book, show film clips, and answer questions. There will be a book signing immediately following the lecture.

Note: The Sun Valley Center For The Arts Documentary Film Festival will present a screening of the film at 2:15 pm, prior to the lecture.

Felis concolor Shadow Cat: Encountering The American Mountain Lion

The American mountain lion, in myth and fact, is the subject of a new book of powerful essays by authors such as Diane Josephy Peavey, Rick Bass, David Quammen, and Pam Houston.  Editor Elizabeth Grossman  presents slides, a lecture, and selected readings to explore the hold this animal has on the American psyche. Rancher, writer, and contributer Diane Josephy Peavey will also read from her essay in the anthology.

To honor Ernest Hemingway's 100th birthday, The Community Library will present book discussions on the third Wednesday of April, May, and June.

The Sun Also Rises

Boise State University professor Rena Anderson leads this month's talk and discussion of The Sun Also Rises, Hemingway's first best-selling novel about a group of war weary American and English expatriates who divide their time between the cafés of Paris and the fiestas of Pamplona.
