The Community Library welcomes University of Idaho Architecture Professor and AIA board member Phillip Mead. He will take us back in time to WWII, when Sun Valley Resort was used as a Navy convalescent hospital. It was in this beautifully placed medical center where military personnel recovered with the help of sun, fresh air, hot water pools, athletics, and cultural activities, the strategies of which have become popular methods of rehabilitation in many of today's leading hospitals.
Philip Mead is a professor at the University of Idaho's College of Art and Architecture. He currently teaches Architectural History, Environmental Control Systems, Design Studio, and a seminar on Wellness and Design. Phillip received his Master's Degree from the University of Texas where he studied and worked under the late Charles Moore who was an early pioneer of the Postmodern Architecture movement. He has contributed to the San Diego works of Antoine Predock and Bertram Goodhue. He has formerly taught at San Diego's Newschool of Architecture and Texas Tech University. Current research examines wellness issues in design which encompasses a range of disciplines from environmental control systems to architectural history.
